You Only Go as Far as Your Family

Opening Verse

“Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth.” (3 John 1:2, KJV)

The Message

A man only goes as far as his family. You can build a career, a ministry, and a stack of plans, and still end up empty if the people closest to you are left behind. Family is where the kingdom shows up. It does not run on leftover time.

A child’s behavior is often the sentence they cannot say yet. It takes time beside them to hear it. It also takes time to hand them real responsibility. Controlling them keeps them small. The gift was never ours to own. We take care of it. We shape them the way God shapes us, then we let them try, miss, and learn.

One warning kept coming back. Wanting to move fast is not the same as knowing it is God’s will. Feelings do not get the final say. When we rush, we leave our people behind.

“He that believeth shall not make haste.” (Isaiah 28:16, KJV)

They stopped on one word in the opening verse: even. “Even as thy soul prospereth” means the same level, not one part of life racing ahead of the rest. A promotion that leaves the house behind is not real prosperity.

Being a husband and a father is not a side job. It is an office, and we cannot do it well apart from the One who made it. Home, work, and ministry are streams from the same river. The help we need is not a better plan. It is the Lord.

“I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the LORD, which made heaven and earth.” (Psalm 121:1-2, KJV)

Prayer is how we stay planted by that help. We do not show up empty and hope something happens. We come to God on purpose, and He is the water. A tree by a river stays green in season and out of season because the water does not stop. That is the life they were pointing to.

“And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3, KJV)

A man receives nothing unless God gives it. So we put family, work, and ministry back in His hands. Say the hard thing out loud. Sit in the same room. Then take what you heard and live it after the call is over.

“A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.” (John 3:27, KJV)

What This Means

Do not grow in one area while your family stays behind. Do not rush ahead of God. Let your life prosper at the same pace as your soul. Husband and father is spiritual work, and it only holds if you stay close to the source.

Think About This

  • Where am I moving fast while the people in my house are standing still?
  • Am I trying to control something God only asked me to take care of?
  • Is my family growing at the same pace as the rest of my life?

Prayer

Father, we need help. We receive nothing unless You give it. Turn our hearts. Help us father, love, and lead at home. Help us in our work, in ministry, and in our own integrity. Do not let us leave our families behind. Keep the glory Yours, one step at a time. Watch over us when we leave and when we come home. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Closing Verse

“The LORD shall preserve thy going out and thy coming in from this time forth, and even for evermore.” (Psalm 121:8, KJV)
